Everton’s attempts to sign Axel Witsel appear to have hit another stumbling block, after Inter Milan joined the race for his signature.
The Belgian international has been at the centre of speculation over his club future all summer, with Everton known to be keen to end his four-year spell at Zenit St Petersburg.
Napoli were understood to be close to completing a deal last week but that fell through, seemingly leaving the path clear for Everton to secure the services of the 27-year-old.
But reports in Italy claim Inter, who will play in the Europa League this season, have been speaking to Witsel’s father (who is also his agent) about a summer switch to the San Siro.
An agreement with Zenit is already believed to be in place, with claims that the former Benfica and Standard Liege midfielder would cost the Milan giants in the region of €22million.
