Newcastle winger Andros Townsend is hoping to repay England boss Roy Hodgson for keeping faith with him after his recent call-up.
The 24-year-old has been a favourite of Hodgson since his performances in the qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Townsend recently got the nod to join HodgsonÂ’s 26-man provisional squad and will get the chance to impress during friendlies with Turkey, Australia and Portugal.
Hodgson is set to trim his squad down to 23-men following the three warm-up fixtures and Townsend admits he has to step up.
Townsend said: “Even when I wasn’t playing much at Spurs, Roy Hodgson always had faith in me and put me in the squad, and nine times out of 10 I’ve done well for him.
“Hopefully I can repay that faith in the friendlies and make sure I get in the (final) squad.”
