Derby County players celebrate a Bradley Johnson goal against Hull

Derby County face two of the current top six sides, Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton, in their six remaining games

Midfielder George Thorne says Derby County got an invaluable boost of morale by beating fellow promotion hopefuls Hull City 4-0 on Tuesday.

Derby’s first win over a side currently in the play-off places since November leaves the Rams sixth in the table.

The victory and clean sheet is their fourth in a row at home, while they have collected just one point from a possible 12 away from home.

“It’s priceless for confidence,” Torne, 23, told BBC Radio Derby.

“We got the three points and, in terms of playing Hull this season, we have kept two clean sheets and scored six goals and they are a team there with us in the table.

“We are delighted, but we also know it will count for nothing if we can’t back it up and continue like this for the rest of the season,”

Bradley Johnson scored twice to put Derby 2-0 up at half-time on Tuesday.

Hull’s Moses Odubajo was sent off for bringing down Tom Ince after the break, before Chris Martin powered in a long-range effort and Craig Bryson tapped in late on.

“The performance was excellent, we have set our standard now,” said Derby head coach Darren Wassall.

“By a country mile, that was our best performance of the season.”

Derby next face Championship bottom side Bolton Wanderers at home on Saturday.
