New Liverpool signing Georginio Wijnaldum is confident he can score at least 10 goals for his new club this season.
The Netherlands international joined the Reds from Newcastle last month, after scoring 11 goals in 38 Premier League appearances on Tyneside, a tally that was made even more impressive as the Magpies were relegated at the end of last season.
The attacking midfielder also had a good goalscoring record during his time in Dutch football with PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord and he expects to hit double figures during his first season on Merseyside.
He said: “The manager wants more goals but I also put pressure on myself to score, I do that everywhere. I did it at Feyenoord, I did it at PSV and I did it at Newcastle. I’m greedy to score and will do the same this season.
“It’s because I have the quality to get goals. I’ve the quality to create too and because I create a lot, I score goals. I think a player with my quality has to at least get a minimum of 10 a season. That’s what I have always said.”
The 25-year-old also expects to be challenging for trophies at his new club, as he believes a team of Liverpool’s stature cannot be settling for the eighth-place finish they achieved last season.
He added: “I think that I can be successful here. If you play for a club as big as Liverpool, you always have to be trying to win trophies. You’re never going to be happy with eighth or ninth here. You have to go for titles because of the history being so big.”
Jurgen Klopp’s side will kick-off the new Premier League season with a trip to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal and punters may choose to use their free bet to back the Reds to begin the campaign with a victory.
