Georginio Wijnaldum remains committed to Newcastle’s battle to beat the drop but has hinted he could leave if they are relegated.
The winger has shown his class in glimpses this season, but just like Newcastle, he has struggled for form since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in the summer.
Wijnaldum has not scored in nine games and Newcastle need him to step up to the plate more than ever over the remaining seven matches if they are to beat the drop.
The Dutchman says he is confident Newcastle will stay up, but refused to say whether he will hang around at St James if the worst happens and they are relegated.
“My role is indeed still a bit unclear. But I am no different in this situation,” he told the Dutch media. “Do I have a clause that I can leave if relegated? I do not give information about what is in my contract.
“I do not think about it until the end of the season and focus on the upcoming matches. But the club is working hard to put everything right and I am confident that we will be okay.”
