Why Ronald Koeman’s Everton move has hit a snag

Saints are digging their heels in over a clause in the deal to stop their former boss raiding St Mary’s for players when he takes over at Goodison.

Everton are hoping to unveil Koeman as Roberto Martinez’s replacement as soon as possible.

The Merseyside club are ready to pay more than £4m in compensation, but they are not willing to agree to any deal that blocks moves for Southampton players.

The stumbling block is not expected to threaten Koeman’s move, and it should be resolved in the coming days.
