SOUTHAMPTON – Sofiane Boufal
Following with tradition, Southampton’s summer exodus began in ernest with the departures of manager Ronald Koeman, Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle and Victor Wanyama.
While new manager Claude Puel looks to have recruited well in midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, combined with former Norwich ace Nathan Redmond, the absence of a prolific goalscorer to step into Pelle’s boots has been gleamingly obvious in Southampton’s opening fixtures this season.
Saints are reportedly in negotiations to sign Lille attacking midfielder Sofiane Boufal, who scored 11 times during his breakthrough season in Ligue 1.
However, while the St Mary’s side could land the 22-year-old Morocco international for a reported club-record fee of up to £21.2million, the fact that he is currently sidelined with a knee injury sustained in May will not go down well with many supporters.
STOKE – Saido Berahino
Saido Berahino has been linked with a move away from West Brom all summer having seen his career stall at the Hawthorns.
And with Mark Hughes already proving his ability to get the best out of youngsters who have lost their way – including Bojan Krkic and Marko Arnautovic – a link up at Stoke could be perfect.
The main sticking point for the Bet365 Stadium outfit may be the fee involved, but this season’s new TV deal should see the Potters board loosen the purse strings to land the England Under-21 hitman.
