Who is Davide Zappacosta? All you need to know about Chelsea’s deadline day signing

Chelsea have had a bid accepted for Torino and Italy right-back Davide Zappacosta after missing out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Blues have reacted quickly after their Arsenal target went to Liverpool and, according to Sky Italia, have now agreed a deal for Zappacosta.

The 25-year-old can operate at right-back, right wing or right-wing-back and so is seen as an ideal fit for Antonio Conte’s side.

Chelsea are set to pay £23m for Zappacosta, but who is he? talkSPORT brings you the lowdown on Chelsea’s new man…

Name: Davide Zappacosta

Date of birth: 11/6/1992 (age 25)

Place of birth: Sora, Lazio

Position: Right-back

Height: 1.82m (6 ft 0 inches)

International appearances: Italy (4), Italy Under-21 (17)

Who is he:

Zappacosta is a 25-year-old Italian right-back who has spent his entire career playing in his home country. Following spells at Isola Liri, Atalanta and Avellino he was linked with a move to Juventus among other top Italian clubs, but surprisingly signed for Torino in 2015 and has since made 58 appearances, scored twice and picked up six assists.

He is known for his attacking menace as he has good pace, is a competent crosser of the ball and is used to playing in both three and four-man defences.

Chelsea’s manager Antonio Conte is very familiar with Zappacosta and it was he who first selected the right-back for Italy. However he didn’t give the player his debut and did not take him as part of his Euro 2016 squad.
