Stoke boss Mark Hughes says Glenn Whelan will be fit to face Newcastle on Wednesday despite suffering a broken nose at the weekend.
The Republic of Ireland star suffered the injury during the clash with Aston Villa on Saturday but still played through the pain barrier as the Potters registered a 2-1 win.
Hughes says the midfielder will again be available for the Newcastle game, but Stoke will once again be without influential skipper Ryan Shawcross for the clash.
“We are OK in terms of injuries, there were one or two bumps and bruises but we expect them all to be ready for tomorrow,” Hughes told Stoke City Player.
“Glenn Whelan broke his nose, but knowing Glenn that won’t impact him at all and we fully expect him to be ready for the game. Ryan will miss out again and we will check on him later in the week but Marc Muniesa is progressing and could come into my thoughts.”
