West Ham transfer report: ‘Croatian Messi’ set to snub Hammers interest to remain in La Liga

28 Apr

Barcelona starlet Alen Halilovic looks likely to remain in La Liga – news which will disappoint West Ham.

The teenager – dubbed the ‘Croatian Messi’ – joined the Catalans from Dinamo Zagreb in 2014, but he has struggled to make an immediate impression under Luis Enrique and was shipped out on loan to Sporting Gijon at the start of this season.

Barca are expected to loan out Halilovic again next summer, with a number of Premier League clubs – most notably West Ham – eager to take him under their wings.

However, Halilovic’s agent, Zoran Stojadinovic, has suggested Barcelona want the midfielder to gain further experience in Spain.

“For him, La Liga is better than the Premier League,” Stojadinovic told Marca.

“If Barcelona choose to loan him again, we prefer Halilovic to stay in Spain.”
