Aaron Cresswell is convinced West Ham will rediscover their form once the club’s current injury crisis has eased.

The Hammers were dumped out of the Europa League in the qualifying stages and are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table with just four points from seven games to date.

Cresswell is among the club’s notable absentees but the defender is closing in on a return and may be able to feature at Crystal Palace next weekend.

The likes of Andy Carroll and summer signing Andre Ayew are also missing, and Cresswell thinks they will climb the table when boss Slaven Bilic has key men to call upon.

“Yes it has (surprised me). Even in pre-season we didn’t have good results in the Europa League but we still have a strong squad, the same team and the same manager,” Cresswell told the club’s official website.

“No one expected it to be like this. Everyone thought we were going to be, not challenging for the title, but certainly up there and having a right good go. It’s still early doors but we want to try and turn it round and get further up that table.

“Once everybody is fit the gaffer will have a headache picking the starting XI but I’m sure he will welcome that. The spirit hasn’t changed but it just hasn’t happened on the pitch… I’m sure we’re going to push further up that table.”

Carroll and Ayew are both expected to make returns before the end of the month, while Cresswell and Diafra Sakho could be involved against Palace but Sam Byram and Arthur Masuaku are set for longer spells out.
