Aston Villa are ready to hand Oscar Borg a two-year contract after positive talks with the full-back ahead of his release by West Ham.
The 18-year-old has been on the books of the Hammers for the past six years and was once dubbed ‘the next Gareth Bale’ after impressing at youth level for the east London outfit.
However, West Ham are believed to have told Borg they intend to release him at the end of the season, leaving the Villans free to swoop for his services.
Villa have been tracking Borg for the past two years and the Birmingham Mail says they have held constructive talks with the defender, leading to speculation he will soon sign professional terms with the Premier League’s bottom club.
The midlands outfit could fast-track Borg into the first-team ahead of their impending drop into the Championship with a major overhaul of the senior squad expected.
