Hughes is likely to compete with Baggies head coach Tony Pulis for similar transfer targets this summer and the Potters boss will not want to lose out to his rival over any of them.
And with reports claiming the 23-year-old Leeds United defender has agreed terms to make the move to the Hawthorns, Hughes has responded by saying Stoke weren’t interested.
“Charlie Taylor is not a player we are involved in,” the manager said after of Saturday’s clash with Arsenal.
“We aren’t looking to pursue anything – he isn’t one of our targets.”
Taylor has been criticised for not making himself available for selection in Leeds’ final game of the season at Wigan last weekend and was fined two week’s wages for the stunt.
