Jay Rodriguez is expected to join West Bromwich Albion on loan.
The Southampton striker has struggled with injuries over the last few years since forcing his way into the England squad in 2013.
He is now back fit and Saints boss Claude Puel sees Rodriguez as part of the club’s long-term plans.
But Puel is keen for the 27-year-old to get regular first-team football this season and is willing to sanction a loan move to Premier League rivals West Brom.
Baggies boss Tony Pulis is keen to add to his squad before the transfer window closes next week and is hoping Rodriguez can recapture the form he showed before his career was disrupted by injury.
The Burnley academy graduate moved to St Mary’s from the Clarets in 2012 for £6m and scored 21 Premier League goals in his first two seasons on the south coast.
