West Brom have reportedly tabled a bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho but have been told he will cost 35m euros.
Albion had been expected to land Ignacio Camacho from Malaga after activating his £15million release clause at the weekend but have now put that deal on hold to see whether they can get their number one choice, Carvalho, instead.
The 24-year-old was part of the Portugal side that won Euro 2016 and Baggies boss Tony Pulis believes he would be a better long-term investment for the club.
Reports in Portugal have now claimed West Brom have had a bid of £21milllion rejected by Sporting, who are trying to hang on to their key men after Leicester took an interest in Islam Slimani and Adrien Silva.
Sporting are believed to have told West Brom it could cost them 35million euros to prise Carvalho away, a figure which could see the Hawthorns outfit pursue a deal for Camacho instead.
