We’ll get MORE British doctors: Hunt to spend £100million on 1,500 new training places

The Health Secretary will use his Tory conference speech in Birmingham to commit £100million of funding for an extra 1,500 training places for doctors starting in 2018.

However, Mr Hunt will also ensure that junior doctors, who cost the taxpayer £220,000 to train, will for the first time have to agree to work in the NHS for at least four years in a bid to encourage more British-born workers with long-term commitment to the service.

The announcement comes as Justice Secretary Liz Truss will unveil a tougher approach to running Britain’s prisons with a campaign to recruit former soldiers to install much needed discipline in the UK’s worst jails.
