Eden Hazard says the referee made the right decision to penalise Hector Bellerin during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at The Emirates.
Hazard appeared to make the most of minimal contact from the Arsenal man in the 67th minute, before dusting himself off to score the resulting penalty.
Speaking to Sky Sports Main Event after the game, the pair clearly had differing views as to what happened.
“He’s always very quick in the box. I saw the ball in the air and I tried to challenge for it,” said Bellerin.
“We both went for the ball at the same time and the referee thought it was a penalty, so we’ll have to see the replay.”
In response, Hazard joked: “We don’t need a replay, yes it’s a penalty.”
It was a pulsating London derby, with both sides throwing caution to the wind in a game that ebbed and flowed.
Jack Wilshere scored his first Premier League goal since May 2015 to open the scoring for Arsenal, only for Hazard’s equaliser – and a close-range finish from Marcos Alonso to seemingly win it for the visitors.
However a stoppage-time strike from Bellerin, who had conceded the spot-kick, earned the Gunners a point.
