30 Aug

England’s record goalscorer revealed he aims to lead the Three Lions after he retires from the game.

The Manchester United and England skipper, 30, is currently taking his coaching badges in a bid to become a manager.

Rooney yesterday dropped the bombshell news that he will call time on his international career after the next major tournament and said: “Come Russia I feel that will be the time to say goodbye to international football.

“My mind is made up. It’s still two years away. I started playing professional football when I was 16, and started playing internationals when I was 17.

“Fifteen years is a lot. I’d be 34 by the next tournament. I’ve had a fantastic international career so far. I’ve enjoyed every minute.
