Victor Wanyama will hold off entering new contract talks with Southampton as he waits to see if Spurs make a serious summer bid.
The 24-year-old has just over a year left on his current contract at St Mary’s and the club are keen to open negotiations over a new, five-year deal.
The Kenyan has been regularly linked with a move away in the past 12 months and was the subject of interest from Spurs last summer, although a move failed to materialise.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino remains keen on the midfielder, however, and the Argentine could come back in the summer and offer in the region of £15million for the former Celtic man, who will weigh up his future at the end of the season.
Wanyama has made 31 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring just one goal, but he has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons too after being sent off three times so far.
His disciplinary issues could put Tottenham off making an offer but there are thought to be a handful of other Premier League clubs who are also keeping an eye on Wanyama’s situation and, if he decides to snub Saints’ contract talks, there will be no shortage of takers.
