Victor Wanyama has told Kenyan media that he is set to leave Southampton this summer, fuelling speculation he will join Tottenham.
The midfielder is a top target for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who first signed him for Saints when he was in charge there in 2013 but then failed to lure the 24-year-old to White Hart Lane 12 months ago.
Spurs are hoping to secure his services for around £11million this summer as he has just one year left on his contract at St Mary’s and Wanyama’s comments to Kenyan media outlet Soka25East seemingly confirm he is set to leave Saints and join a club competing in the Champions League next season.
“It’s always a tough moment leaving a club that you are so much used to their tradition and fans but again it’s always the dream of any footballer to play at the very top level like the Champions League,” he was quoted as saying.
“I will definitely miss the awesome Southampton fans who always showed me love and I know they will fully understand my decision.”
