“The defenders are not defending by themselves. I think it starts up front and everybody can be proud of themselves.”

Claudio Ranieri’s men bounced back from their Manchester United embarrassment last weekend to make it two wins out of two in the Champions League – by beating Euro giants Porto.

Saints’ European jaunt was a 6,000-mile round trip to Israel and Van Dijk added: “We have to respect the champions and they won in the Champions League this week so are full of confidence.

“It’s going to be a great game and another challenge for everyone. We are all focused and ready.

“We can beat anyone in this league but it still needs hard work and us all sticking together.”
