Fulham have emerged as rivals to Aston Villa for the signature of Atromitos goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas, according to reports in Greece.
Villa have had the 21-year-old custodian watched over the past month, leading to rumours of a impending summer bid, but Fulham are also in the race for his signature – claim Sentragoal.gr.
The 6ft 4in Greek Under-21 international is under contract at Peristeri until 2017 and the Greek club know they can make enough money to revamp other areas of their squad if they hold out for a significant fee this summer.
Villa have been searching Europe for a young keeper to come in and beef up competition for the number one spot, with both Brad Guzan and Mark Bunn having been dropped after shaky displays this season.
Fulham are currently operating with free transfer signing Andy Lonergan as their number one after Marcus Bettinelli, last season’s regular keeper, picked up a serious knee injury in August.
