Marseille will reportedly offer Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye a return to France in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old only joined Villa last summer when then boss Tim Sherwood paid £9million to take him from French Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
Villa beat Marseille to Gueye’s signature as they could offer a better deal, but the player has subsequently only shown brief glimpses of his potential in a struggling team.
And with relegation to the Championship looking a certainty, as Villa sit nine points adrift of safety with only nine games remaining, it appears Marseille are formulating a bid to hand the Senegal international an escape route.
Villa are unlikely to get back the full amount they paid for Gueye but will no doubt be happy to offload as they will need to try and balance the books, due to the lost millions relegation from the Premier League will bring, and then rebuild for at least a season in the Championship.
