Crystal Palace remain in the hunt to sign Fenerbahce striker Robin van Persie, but his staggering wages are holding up a deal.
The Turkish club are keen to get the Dutchman’s reported £240,000-a-week wages off the books and will cash in if someone comes in and matches their £4million valuation.
Palace are interested and would be in the box seat to do a deal as the player is keen to live in London, but he will have to take a sizeable pay cut to have any chance of striking a deal.
It is highly unlikely Palace would be willing to even pay a quarter of what he is on at the moment and unless he takes a big cut, boss Alan Pardew will look elsewhere.
Stoke City and Middlesbrough are also said to be keen on the former Manchester United and Arsenal star, who would jump at the chance to return to the Premier League.
