Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hailed his side’s 1-0 victory over Norwich on Saturday as ‘fantastic’.
Juan Mata scored the decisive goal with 18 minutes to play at Carrow Road, and the result has moved the Red Devils to within one point of rivals Manchester City in the race to finish in the top four, with both teams having two league matches left to play this campaign.
Van Gaal has had his fair share of critics at Old Trafford this season, but he could end the campaign with a top-four finish, and admits that he was delighted with his side’s performance against the relegation-haunted Canaries.
He said: “We did our job today. Fantastic, I think. When you see the second half, we deserved to win. We’re still in the race (for the top four).”
United still do not have their destiny in their own hands, but they will be hoping that victories over West Ham and Bournemouth in their final two league games will be enough to see them secure Champions League football for next season.
