The Black Cats slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to Middlesbrough on Sunday after losing by the same scoreline on the opening weekend at Manchester City.

David Moyes’ side are back in action when they they host Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before they travel to take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Despite the poor start, the Dutchman says there is belief in the dressing room that wins are just around the corner and he’s hopeful of getting two good results this week.

“Our main focus is on Shrewsbury Town,” he told the club’s website. “It is a cup game and all we have to do is win. If we do that we will carry on to Southampton and hopefully keep a winning streak going.

“We can play; we showed that in the second half against Middlesbrough and in the first half on a couple of occasions, so we just have to do it and be confident.”
