Young Man Utd striker Ashley Fletcher is targeting a first-team spot at Old Trafford next term after impressing on loan at Barnsley.
The 20-year-old frontman has scored seven goals in 23 games for the League One club, including a brace against Colchester on Saturday.
And following the meteoric rise of Marcus Rashford from Under-18 squad to senior starting centre-forward, Fletcher believes he can make an impact for Louis van Gaal’s side next season.
“It’s been massive and I’d like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to come and play games,” Fletcher told Barnsley’s official website. “I feel I’ll be going back to Manchester United as a better player.
“I’ve developed little things like how to be cuter with defenders, and having the confidence element to score goals has really benefited me.
“Getting a run of games has also benefited me in terms of my fitness.”
