A Manchester United scout reportedly watched Besiktas midfielder Tolgay Arslan very closely in a 1-1 draw with Dynamo Kiev this week.
Reports in Turkey claim United sent a representative to the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul on Wednesday for the Champions League clash with the intention of checking on Brazilian Anderson Talisca – a player who manager Jose Mourinho has expressed an interest in before.
But it is claimed that Arslan, 26, became the focus of the scouts attention throughout the match – of which he played 77 minutes before being withdrawn.
The former German Under-21 international has been with Besiktas for 18 months but has failed to lock down a regular starting berth.
He did impress as a substitute against Liverpool in the Europa League back in 2015 when he scored a superb goal to send the two-legged tie into extra time, before converting one of the penalties that sent the Merseysiders crashing out.
United also scouted Besiktas’ 1-1 draw at Benfica earlier this month when Talisca rescued a late point with a brilliant free-kick, but Arslan did not get off the bench in that match.
