Antonio Valencia has thrown down the gauntlet and insisted Manchester United will be gunning for Pep Guardiola from the outset.
The Colombian winger says the Red Devils will be looking to put down an early marker when they face-off against their local rivals Manchester City in Beijing later this month.
The two clubs will pick up around £5million each when Guardiola comes up against his old sparring partner Jose Mourinho in the Chinese capital on July 25.
United’s players resume pre-season training this morning and Valencia is insistent they already have one eye on that ‘friendly’ game against City.
He said: “It’s a Derby and everyone wants to win those games for the supporters.
“It’s always important to prepare well and get fit and it’s even better when you come up against two sides like those [United will also face Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22].
“They are both teams that set very high standards for themselves and so we have to demonstrate just how ready and prepared we are to play.”
