Underfire Everton boss Martinez reacts to transfer record criticism amid Niasse troubles

“The average age was nearly 30, now it’s around 26. The record is there. It is not about the last signing, it is about the three years and the work we have done in those six windows.”

Martinez remains on the brink at Goodison Park despite Saturday’s 2-1 win bringing only a second home success since November.

A plane trailing a banner declaring “Time to go Roberto” flew overhead, while around 100 supporters remained in position on the Gwladys Street on Saturday until Martinez appeared at 6.10pm. They then chanted, “Roberto Martinez, Get out of our club.”

The decision to select Niasse and rest leading scorer Lukaku represented a major gamble given Martinez needed to win, but he was undeterred.
