Liverpool have jumped to the head of the queue in the race to sign Georginio Wijnaldum and are confident they can strike a deal with Newcastle United this week for the coveted midfielder. Newcastle have set a fee of £27 million, but Liverpool are confident they can settle on a deal nearer to £20 million. Jose Mourinho could scupper Swansea City’s bid to bring Joe Allen back to the Liberty Stadium. Manchester United are said to be considering a shock move for the Liverpool midfielder, one of the stars for Wales in their incredible Euro 2016 campaign. (South Wales Evening Post)

Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has not set Manchester United a deadline to sign the Juventus midfielder. However, it is understood all parties are thought to want to conclude the deal quickly and do not want to drag the saga out all summer. Jose Mourinho was initially pessimistic about United’s chances of signing Pogba amid intense competition, but the club’s discussions with Raiola have been positive. (Manchester Evening News)

Napoli will not lower their demands for Arsenal and Juventus target Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine striker is keen to leave this summer but Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is refusing to release the 28-year-old for anything less than the full amount of the buyout clause in his contract, set at €94.5 million. Riyad Mahrez is set for a dream move to Barcelona after telling Leicester he wants to leave. The PFA Player of the Year rejected a bumper new contract with the champions this weekend. He has now instructed his representatives to engineer a move away from the King Power this summer and the Nou Camp is the Algerian’s preferred location. (The Sun)

Leicester will use cash from N’Golo Kante’s £30million sale to Chelsea to increase bids for Robbie Brady and Michael Keane. (Daily Mirror)

Manchester City have been offered Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci. Pep Guardiola is a confirmed admirer of the Italian international – describing him as one of his “favourite ever players.” Juve are said to want a world record fee for a defender – valuing Bonucci in excess of £50m. Manchester City have joined the £15million race to sign West Ham whizkid Reece Oxford. Scouts from City, Spurs and Manchester United watched the 17-year-old play for England U-19s against Holland on Friday. Real Sociedad keeper Geronimo Rulli, 24, is also a £6.5m target for new Etihad boss Pep Guardiola. (The Sun)

Lazio are continuing to negotiate with West Ham for £15million striker Enner Valencia – but face strong competition from Swansea. (Daily Mirror)

Portugal’s Euros hero Cedric Soares is the third Southampton star currently in contract talks with the club. Right-back Cedric joins Shane Long and Dusan Tadic in being locked in negotiations over a new deal. (Daily Mirror)

Tottenham have opened talks with Marseille over an £11million deal for winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou. Negotiations are at an early stage but the deal could see Clinton N’Jie go the other way. (Daily Mail)
