Jose Mourinho is confident Manchester United will make a statement signing during his first summer transfer window. Mourinho has prioritised signing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba to the extent he vetoed a move for Miralem Pjanic, who joined Juve from Roma, although it is understood the Portuguese is pessimistic about United’s chances amid intense competition for the France international and his world-record asking price. Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s future remains up in the air and it’s starting to frustrate his agent Mino Raiola, who reportedly tossed a chair during heated discussions with Borussia Dortmund. The Armenian playmaker has his sights set on a move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League and Raiola says Manchester United is his dream club. (Daily Mirror)

Liverpool are closing in on a deal to make Sadio Mane one of the biggest transfers in their history. Mane is the player Jurgen Klopp has identified as being key to his rebuilding plans and, ideally, would want the Senegal striker on board before pre-season training begins on July. The Reds are now on the verge of landing the Southampton, with the fee expected to be in the region of £30million. (Daily Mail)

Liverpool have rejected an £8million bid from Swansea to take Joe Allen back to the Liberty Stadium. But the Reds are prepared to sell Allen, who has one year left on his deal, and are understood to want around £10million for the Wales midfielder. (Daily Mirror)

Liverpool will have to pay £12million to prise Andy Robertson away from Hull. That’s the Tigers’ asking price, and boss Steve Bruce wants Robbie Brady back from relegated Norwich before he will consider selling full-back Robertson to the Reds. (Daily Mirror)

Hull City have made enquiries about Fulham striker Ross McCormack and have an interest in Manchester United’s Phil Jones but won’t formalise any offers until they have assurances from Steve Bruce he is to continue as manager of the club. (Daily Mail)

Manchester City are looking to offer around £6million for Croatia international Ante Coric. City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham have all expressed interest in the Dinamo Zagreb midfielder, who is part of the national squad at Euro 2016. (Daily Mail)

Chelsea target Radja Nainggolan is set to reject a big-money move to Stamford Bridge in order to stay with Roma. The Belgian spoke with Antonio Conte before leaving for Euro 2016 but has now told Roma’s president he will stay with the Serie A side. (Daily Mirror)

Southampton are continuing discussions with Stuttgart over a £12million move for Filip Kostic. The highly-rated Serbian is hoping for talks to be concluded this weekend as he is keen to move to the Premier League despite interest from rival Bundesliga clubs such as Wolfsburg. (Daily Mail)

Northern Ireland hero Michael McGovern is wanted by Southampton after his Euro 2016 heroics. Free agent McGovern, 32, played a blinder against Germany to make sure that Michael O’Neill’s men made the last 16 – and also attracted growing interest. (The Sun)

Manuel Pellegrini has been ditched by Southampton in their search for a new manager – leaving the way clear for Frenchman Claude Puel. After interviewing the former Manchester City boss, the Saints hierarchy decided he did not fit the club’s philosophy of ­developing young players. They are now ready to turn to former Nice chief Puel, who was once Arsene Wenger’s protege at ­Monaco. (Daily Mirror)

Stoke have offered nearly £20million for Napoli forward Manolo Gabbiadini. The 24-year-old, who can play wide or as a central striker, shot to prominence with Sampdoria before signing for the Neapolitans for £11m last year. (Daily Mirror)

Meanwhile, Stoke have also had a £250,000 bid for Dundee United defender Harry Souttar rejected. The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the best up and coming prospects in Scotland but the Tannadice Park club will struggle to reject more considered offers. (Daily Mail)

Celtic have had a £2million bid rejected by Aston Villa to sign Scott Sinclair. (Daily Express)

Wales defender Chris Gunter is wanted by Premier League duo Swansea and Middlesbrough following his heroics at Euro 2016. The 26-year-old full-back is understood to have a release clause in his contract with Reading, which has two more years to run, and is available for £1million. (Daily Mirror)
