Sunderland are set to hijack Crystal Palace’s pursuit of Inter Milan defender Davide Santon.
talkSPORT told you earlier this week that the Eagles were closing in on the former Newcastle man, but it now appears Sam Allardyce is trying to persuade the Italian to return to the north east.
According to Tutto Mercato, the 25-year-old is eager to move back to the Premier League and is awaiting either Palace or Sunderland to stump up the £3m required for Inter to sell.
Palace manager Alan Pardew has repeatedly spoken to Santon in a bid to lure him to Selhurst Park, but it is understood that Sunderland are offering him a higher salary.
The Black Cats have held talks with the player’s representatives and are ready to tie him down to a contract worth £1.7m per year.
