Aston Villa and Sunderland are battling it out to land Bordeaux defender Frederic Guilbert.
According to France Football, the two English clubs have been alerted to his potential availability with his contract due to expire this time next year.
Bordeaux know that his value will dwindle over the next 12 months and may decide to cash in on him this summer to avoid him walking away as a free agent in 2017.
The Ligue 1 club’s manager, Jocelyn Gourvennec, is due to meet with Guilbert imminently in a bid to sort out his future, with Villa and Sunderland both keeping close tabs on the situation.
The 21-year-old impressed last season, making 30 appearances in the French top flight.
