Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has put a new central defender high on his wanted list this summer and Mawson has emerged as a top target following an impressive season with Swansea.
The Swans only just avoided relegation from the Premier League in the last campaign, and that is partly down to the fact that the 21-year-old put in some sterling performances at the back for Paul Clement’s men.
Mawson then impressed for the England Under-21s at the European Championships in the summer and Spurs could be ready to test Swansea’s resolve by making a bid for the former Barnsley defender.
However he will not come cheap, and despite only signing him from Barnsley 12 months ago for £5million, it has been suggested the Swans would demand six times that figure.
It is unlikely Spurs would be prepared to go that high, and an attempt to negotiate them down could be on the cards.
