Football would be nothing without the fans.
For over 150 years English football clubs have been playing in front of crowds of paying spectators, who pass their love of the game and their team down through generations.
The grounds, or as they are more often known these days, stadiums, have changed a great deal over time, but the passion of the supporters remains a constant.
This season, West Ham United are playing in the 60,000-capacity Olympic Stadium, making it almost certain the Hammers will break their previous highest average attendance figure of 35,910, set just last campaign at Upton Park.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will see Anfield’s capacity increase to just over 54,000, giving the Reds a great chance to comfortably exceed the club’s previous highest average attendance.
But which club’s make up the top 20, based on highest ever average attendances? Find out in the slideshow above.
