Karl Darlow will start in goal for Newcastle at Norwich but Jack Colback misses out through suspension.
Rob Elliot will miss the rest of the season after suffering cruciate ligament damage on Republic of Ireland duty and, with Tim Krul still absent, Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is set to hand Darlow a place in the starting side for the crucial clash at Carrow Road.
Darlow, 25, has just one Premier League appearance to his name but Benitez has no concerns over the keeper’s ability.
He said: “It’s not good news, but you have to concentrate on what you can do. We have to support Darlow.
“Mentally he’s right to come in, he’s confident and we know he can do it. He’s not played a lot of Premier League games, but he has experience in the Championship.
“We have not really done anything extra with Karl. We have another training session today and will keep an eye on him, but he’s trained well.”
Newcastle have eight Premier League games remaining with Darlow and 19-year-old Freddie Woodman their options in goal.
Colback begins a two-game ban after picking up a 10th yellow card of the season in the draw with Sunderland last time out.
The midfielder was utilised as a makeshift left-back in the Tyne-Wear derby draw and his absence gives Benitez a selection headache as Paul Dummett (hamstring), Massadio Haidara (knee) and Kevin Mbabu (thigh) are all missing.
Daryl Janmaat is expected to be involved despite a recent knee problem but Fabricio Coloccini misses out with a calf injury.
Provisional squad: Darlow, Woodman, Janmaat, Taylor, Mbemba, Lascelles, Gibson, Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Shelvey, Townsend, Saivet, De Jong, Anita, Gouffran, Aarons, Mitrovic, Cisse, Perez, Doumbia, Riviere.
