West Ham have accepted a £12.5m bid from Crystal Palace for versatile defender James Tomkins who looks to be on his way.

It was thought the academy product would end up at Sunderland with former boss Sam Allardyce but the Wearside club have been out-bid by Palace manager Alan Pardew.

The Eagles will make it three transfer in the space of 24 hours when Tomkins signs following the arrivals of Andros Townsend and goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

Despite returning to pre-season training with the Hammers, Slaven Bilic has other defenders ahead of Tomkins and will allow him to leave, while all the money coming in will go straight into the manager’s transfer pot.
