Crystal Palace are reported to be showing an interest in West Ham defender James Tomkins but face a battle to land him.

Eagles boss Alan Pardew is looking to bolster his defence this summer and the fact that Tomkins can play in central defence or at right-back, makes him very appealing.

Pardew would love to get the player on board for next season, but Tomkins has no intention of leaving the Hammers and any approach looks sure to fail.

Sunderland are also thought to be interested in Tomkins, who has come through the ranks at the east London outfit before making over 200 appearances, but again any bid looks doomed.

Palace are focusing on the FA Cup Final against Manchester United but the wheels are still in motion to bring in new players, with Pardew looking to add more quality to his ranks following an alarming slump in form in the second half of the season.
