This how good Tottenham really are, says ex-captain Gary Mabbutt

“I haven’t seen anything that good at Tottenham for quite a while”

“Then at the back with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, they have one of the best partnerships in the league.

“What the manager’s done so well is nurture a lot of excellent talent into a team. I haven’t seen anything that good at Tottenham for quite a while.

“They play with energy, passion, hunger and quality – not for themselves but for the team. We have very good foundations to build upon.”

Mabbutt has been equally impressed by Pochettino’s first two signings of the summer transfer window.

He has spent £12million to take Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama from Southampton – a player he has worked with in the past – and followed that up last week with an £18m deal for AZ Alkmaar hitman Vincent Janssen.

And that represents a significant change, for the better, in transfer policy according to Mabbutt.
