‘The time is now!’ – Tottenham legend Ledley King on Premier League title race ahead of north London derby with Arsenal
Ledley King has told talkSPORT this season’s title race is Tottenham’s time to shine.
The north Londoners, who face Arsenal tomorrow in a ‘huge’ derby at White Hart Lane, are second in the Premier League, just three points behind leaders Leicester.
They may have missed the chance to take top spot in midweek as they lost at West Ham, but results went their way and Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain firmly in the title race.
“The time is now,” former defender and cult hero King told Drivetime.
“The two teams up there now will feel there’s a big chance of winning the league this season.
“I do believe it will be harder in the coming season. So for both teams – use the opportunity.
“They are doing everything right and at this stage they are the two favourites. As long as they keep going about their business the way they are, they stand a great chance.”
Going into the match against Arsene Wenger’s Gunners, who are without a win in their last four matches in all competitions, King is confident there will be a home victory.
He said: “I really do believe we will win.
“I’ve played in enough derbies to know form goes out of the window in these types of games.
“Arsenal are not in the best of form, but just being at home and with the way the team has performed this year, bouncing back from defeat, I fully expect them to do it again.
“In patches they [Arsenal] can be brilliant. They have lacked a bit of consistency but they tend to finish the season quite strongly.
“The way this Tottenham team is playing at the moment, I think it would be too much for Arsenal to come back from so it’s a huge, huge game.”
King, who is ambassador for Spurs, will be working in the executive boxes on matchday and he admits watching from the stands is difficult on matchdays.
“It’s much harder watching than playing it – I know because I missed a fair few games with injury!
“When you can’t do anything about it, it’s tough.”
