Southampton winger Sam McQueen could start as the left-back at the San Siro on Thursday after Matt Targett was injured against Burnley.
McQueen was thrown into the action for his Premier League debut when Targett pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury after just 14 minutes of Sunday’s 3-1 home win.
The 21-year-old didn’t let anyone down in a position he only recently switched to after starting out his career as a wide midfielder.
McQueen defended well and used his natural instinct to go forward to earn the penalty from which Charlie Austin made the points safe in the second half.
He could now find himself starting for Saints against Inter Milan in arguably the biggest match the club has ever played on foreign soil.
Targett, who had been struggling for fitness in the lead up to Sunday’s game, is unlikely to travel to Italy while first choice left-back Ryan Bertrand has been ruled out for several weeks.
