West Ham have been handed a boost in their efforts to sign striker Mario Gomez after he decided to get out of Turkey.

The former Bayern Munich striker has decided to leave Besiktas, where he had been on an extended loan, due to the unrest in the country and return to Fiorentina and that has handed West Ham a fresh chance to land the striker.

The 31-year-old has just a year left on his current deal in Italy and they are expected to cash in this summer.

With Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia both expected to leave the club the search has been on for a new frontman and, as well as Gomez, the Hammers have also been linked with Christian Benteke, Carlos Bacca with reports on Thursday claiming a deal for the AC Milan striker had been agreed.
