One of Manchester United’s main rivals for the signature of Breel Embolo has pulled out of the race for the Swiss striker.

Newly-promoted Bundesliga club RB Leipzig have told FC Basel and Embolo’s agent that they are no longer interested in the 19-year-old frontman, who started for Switzerland in their 0-0 Euro 2016 draw with France on Sunday.

Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick said: “We’ve informed the agent of Embolo and FC Basel that we are no longer interested in his transfer.”

That could leave the way open for United to secure the services of the teenager as reports continue to link the youngster with a move to Old Trafford.

United have so far only held talks with his agent – the brother of Stoke City star Xerdan Shaqiri – while it has also been claimed that Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes could be in some way involved.
