Will Swansea sack Francesco Guidolin?

Former Swansea City striker Dean Saunders says the club must stick with beleaguered head coach Francesco Guidolin.

Swansea’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool was their sixth Premier League game without a win and increased the pressure on the Italian.

Guidolin is the odds-on favourite to be the next Premier League boss to leave his post.

“He needs time to sort it out,” former Wales international Saunders said.

“But he knows more than anybody in the Premier League that you’ve got to win. The more games go by without them getting a three pointer the finger is getting pointed at him.

“He’s had a lot of changes and a lot of players leave, lost his captain [Ashley Williams] and a lot of players have come in.

“It’s early days but that’s the Premier League. There’s so much money involved that it’s big news.”

Swansea’s worst start to a league season for 25 years, with only four points from their opening seven games, have left them one place above the relegation zone.

Club captain Leon Britton says Swansea City’s players are still behind the former Udinese and Monaco coach, who signed a two-year contract in May 2016.

Swansea’s American owners, Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien, were at the Liberty Stadium for the Liverpool game, but have yet to decide on Guidolin’s future.

Although they are alarmed by the club’s predicament, Swansea’s owners are understood to have no immediate plans to sack the 60-year-old Italian.

Ex-Manchester United and Wales winger Ryan Giggs and former USA manager Bob Bradley have been linked with the Swans post.

“I think it’s disrespectful to talk about the man’s job when he’s still in the job,” former Wolves, Wrexham and Doncaster manager Saunders told BBC Wales Sport.

“If they sack the manager then approach Ryan Giggs. But at the moment he’s [Guidolin] in the job.”
