Swansea’s hopes of re-signing Joe Allen have been given a big boost after Liverpool decided to cash in on the midfielder.
The Reds have been weighing up whether to offer the 26-year-old a new contract since the season ended, Allen having just 12 months left to run on his current deal.
Despite impressing for Wales at Euro 2016, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly decided to sell Allen, as long as someone meets the club’s asking price of £11million.
Klopp’s decision to let Allen leave is likely to spark a bidding war between several clubs, including Swansea, who had an offer turned down for the midfielder earlier in the summer.
The Swans have made their desire to re-sign the player they sold to Liverpool for £15m in 2012 public but face competition from Southampton and Spanish side Sevilla.
