West Brom appear to have moved ahead of Swansea in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani after offering £21million.
Swans boss Francesco Guidolin has already boosted his strike force with Borja Baston and Fernando Llorente over the last week, but he still wants one more, and Slimani is a target.
Eder, Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew have all headed for the exit door this summer and Guidolin wants to make sure he has enough firepower for what is sure to be a tough campaign.
Slimani is on the radar but West Brom have stolen a march after reportedly upping their bid to £21m – which could smash their transfer record.
However the Baggies are understood to be still some way short of the Portuguese club’s £26m asking price for the Algeria international and that could leave the door open for the Swans if they are willing to go that high.
Slimani is in demand after smashing 56 goals in 107 games for Sporting over the last three years with a number of Premier League clubs currently showing an interest.
Everton are also keen on the 28-year-old forward, who is under contract in Portugal until 2020.
