Norwich 1-2 Chelsea (Kenedy 1, Diego Costa 45+1)
A 15th successive domestic game unbeaten took Chelsea into the top half of the English Premier League table for the first time this season. Burkina Faso winger Bertrand Traoré made his first senior start for Chelsea, but was swiftly upstaged by another 20-year-old as Kenedy took just 40 seconds to score his first Premier League goal for the club. Traoré played in Diego Costa to chip Norwich keeper John Ruddy and make it 2-0 just before the break – his eighth goal of 2016. Nathan Redmond replied for Norwich.
Atlético 3-0 Real Sociedad (Reyes 8og, Ñíguez 46, Griezmann 61p)
Diego Simeone’s side retained their firm hold on second place in Spain with a defeat of mid-table Real Sociedad. Mexican defender Diego Reyes turned Koke’s cross into his own net to set Atlético on their way inside ten minutes, and Saúl Ñíguez volleyed within seconds of the restart to make it 2-0. Antoine Griezmann’s followed up his weekend derby winner against Real Madrid by converting a penalty to make it 3-0, as Atlético kept their fifth successive clean sheet in all competitions.
Hannover 0-4 Wolfsburg (Schürrle 36 59 62, Draxler 69)
It was quite a night for André Schürrle, who scored the second club hat-trick of his career two years to the day after registering his first – in Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Fulham on 1 March 2014. The winger had scored only one league goal this season going into tonight’s game, but quadrupled that tally with strikes in the 36th, 59th and 62nd minutes. Julian Draxler’s strike completed a comprehensive victory against the Bundesliga’s bottom side.
