Crystal Palace look set to fail in their bid to land Inter Milan defender Davide Santon, who appears poised to join Sunderland.
Eagles boss Alan Pardew had reportedly been confident of capturing the Italian full-back after previously working with him at Newcastle, with the 25-year-old spending four years at St James’ Park before rejoining Inter in 2015.
After a frustrating spell back in his homeland, Santon made it clear he wanted to return to the Premier League this summer, prompting Pardew to register Palace’s interest.
However, Sunderland have reportedly gazumped the Selhurst Park outfit after agreeing a fee in the region of £3million for Santon.
The Italian is expected on Wearside this weekend to undergo a medical and the transfer could be completed before the start of next week, much to the frustration of Pardew.
