Sunderland stars already feeling the pressure of crucial Tyne-Wear derby

While the Magpies have a trip to title-chasing Leicester on Monday, Sam Allardyce’s side have a blank weekend and are already counting down the days to their St James’ Park date with destiny.

Sunderland have won the last six derbies but it’s Premier League survival rather than a record-stretching seventh which is focussing the players’ minds this time.

“It’s now looking like three teams from four now so the next game at Newcastle is hugely important,” said defender Younes Kaboul.

“Both clubs and both cities live for this game but it’s not just about local pride this time.”
